Donate A Horse

Picture
As our horses age, it becomes necessary to retire many of them to loving homes. Retirement leaves us with empty stalls, and each empty stall means that disabled riders will be disappointed. The ideal therapy horse is sound, has an unflappable temperament, and unlimited heart. Our horses have come from many different backgrounds including show horses, polo, police work, school horses, racing, family pets and fox hunting. The average age of an EEMV horse is 16 years.

While we need all sizes and shapes to serve our riders, we especially need sturdy horses, 15-16.1 hands that can accommodate large adolescents and adults.  Many of our riders began their experiences as little tykes.  Over the years, these little tykes have grown up and are now in need of larger horses.

If you have a horse you are not using, would you consider donating him or her?  In addition to a tax deduction, by donating your horse to EEMV you can be assured that he or she will receive quality care, unlimited love, and constant attention.  You also receive the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing unique assistance that will enable disabled riders to grow in physical ability, confidence, and self-esteem. Donors may retain right of first refusal.

Each horse donated to EEMV must:
  • Be unflappable (nothing bothers them)
  • Be sound and in good health
  • Be able to walk/trot/canter smoothly
  • Have a solid back
  • Be forgiving of an inexperienced rider
If EEMV staff initially approves a horse being offered for donation, the horse will be taken to EEMV for a 30-day trial period before officially being accepted into the program.

If you are interested in donating a horse, please send an email with your name, phone number and a description of the horse to EEMV at exceptional.equestrians@yahoo.com or call (636) 390-2141.
