Big Mac, 2011 PATH Int'l Region 7 Equine of the Year
Exceptional Equestrians of the Missouri Valley, Inc is excited to be in its 20th year of operation.

Backyard Program
Exceptional Equestrians of the Meramec Valley, inc. was formed in March of 1991 by Charla Shurtleff, to respond to a local need for affordable equine therapy and recreation for people of all ages.  In 1993, Exceptional Equestrians became a satellite program of Therapeutic Horsemanship in St. Charles, MO. We moved to our present location in Washington, MO in 1994.  By July of 1995, Exceptional Equestrians of the Meramec Valley, Inc. had grown to become an independent 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization.

Growth and Distinction
In 2006, EEMV changed its name from Exceptional Equestrians of the Meramec Valley, Inc. to Exceptional Equestrians of the Missouri Valley, Inc. in order to more easily communicate with riders from a large service area.  Exceptional Equestrians has been accredited with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, Int'l (PATH Int'l) since 1994.  In 2002, PATH Int'l developed a new rating, Premier Accredited Center, to recognize those programs which had received distinction in the realm of equine-assisted activities.  EEMV was one of the original programs to be awarded Premier Accredited status and has retained that status ever since.  In 2011, EEMV renewed its accreditation with PATH Int'l, cementing its position as a Premier Accredited Center for 2011-2016.

Exceptional Equestrians is a national award-winning program.  In 2006, Exceptional Equestrians' rider Michael Grattendick was awarded PATH Int'l Youth Rider of the Year, and volunteer Millie Meyer was the PATH Int'l Region 7 Volunteer of the Year.  In 2007, Exceptional Equestrians' rider Susan Bangert was the PATH Int'l Adult Rider of the Year, and EEMV horse Heidi-Ho was the PATH Int'l Region 7 Equine of the Year.  In 2008, Program Manager and Instructor Laura Jensen was the PATH Int'l Instructor of the Year.  In 2011, EEMV horse Big Mac was the PATH Int'l Region 7 Equine of the Year.
